Research & Development
Much of the University’s research across all academic areas has direct application in industry, commerce and in the public and voluntary sectors. Research projects are often commissioned directly by end-users, and research outcomes can include new product and process development, policy development, and evaluation of new working methods and pilot projects. Projects may be carried out by University staff only, or as a collaborative project (where University staff work with colleagues in other organisations on a shared problem).
Funding for R&D
An organisation may choose to fund a research project directly. Estimates and quotations are available via the Glyndwr Innovations team.
Grants may be available towards the cost of research projects (usually collaborative projects). Potential sources include UK Research Councils, European and UK government bodies, and charities.
The nature and extent of funding varies widely. For example, some funders may cover the University’s costs but not the costs incurred by commercial collaborators. Funding may extend to covering the cost of staff engaged in a project, or may be limited to supporting a research student working on the project. Eligibility for financial support can depend on a collaborating organisation’s circumstances (location, size, etc.). Identifying the best source of funding is a complex issue, and so our aim is to understand your needs and aspirations before we look for funding.
