Go Wales Programmes
Graduate Opportunities Wales (GO Wales) is a business development and employability programme delivered by university careers services across Wales. The programme helps Welsh businesses benefit from offering work experience to students and graduates.
Work Placements
GO Wales Work Placements last for between 6 and 10 weeks full-time (or part-time if required) and can take place at any time of the year. Undergraduate students are available to work part-time during term time and full-time during their vacations. Graduates are available throughout the year. You must pay the placee a minimum of £240 per week (or pro rata if part-time) and placements must have a specific objective (ie a particular project or number of tasks to be completed). However, for graduates a placement could be used as a work trial for further employment in the company.
What's in it for you?
- We advertise the placement opportunity and search for suitable candidates free of charge
- Access to people with specific high level skills and knowledge to add value to your business.
- A choice of candidates from a wide range of disciplines and universities.
- We send you suitable CVs, you interview and choose the right person for the placement.
- The chance to see if you could benefit permanently from employing graduates - you may even find an undergraduate to work for you part-time.
- You may be eligible for a subsidy of up to £90 per week towards wages during the placement period.
Work Tasters
- These are extremely flexible and designed to provide students and new graduates with a 'taste' of a particular career or working environment.
- They cost nothing as it is unpaid work experience for the student to gain insight into a career or business sector.
- Tasters normally last only a few days
- By hosting a student or a graduate you can introduce them to your company, enable them to gain experience and make career decisions.
Why should I offer work experience?
After qualifications, relevant work experience is the number one request of employers when recruiting graduate-level staff, but only employers can provide real work experience. Graduates are capable, keen and enthusiastic with high-level skills and can make a real difference to your business You may even find a longer-term employee.
Graduate Training and Development Fund
The GO Wales Graduate Training and Development Fund (GTD) can help SMEs in Wales to train and develop their graduate-level staff. We can provide financial support to help Welsh employers access training that they might otherwise be unable to afford. This can help businesses to retain and develop staff to help the organisation to achieve strategic business goals and maximise potential.
We are able to fund training that will provide a clear benefit to a business in Wales. Once an application has been approved GO Wales can potentially fund half of the cost of the course up to£1,500 per eligible graduate.
Requirements:
- You must be a small to medium sized business employing less than 250 staff.
- Your business must be based in Wales.
- The funding is only available for graduate staff (the participant must have a degree, HND or equivalent qualification of NQF level 4 or above).
- The training must cost a minimum of £175 including VAT.
- The funding must provide a clear benefit to the business.
You can make an application on behalf of any graduate working in the business providing they meet the requirements listed above.
