Solar Energy Research

Carrying out both fundamental research on photovoltaic (PV) materials and applied research on industrial processes for PV manufacture and exploitation of advanced thin film materials. We also have experience of sensor device development, testing and systems integration.

We have a total of 5 thin film deposition systems from small scale research reactors to an industrial scale reactor. We provide a mix of services to industry, form a “one off” rental of our facilities/equipment for cell testing, to developing and optimising new types of thin film coating for commercial exploitation. In particular we have expertise in cadmium telluride and conductive coatings

Part of the Low Carbon Research Institute (LCRI) and Welsh Energy Research Centre (WERC) http://www.welshenergy.org/ we collaborate on renewable energy R&D throughout the world.

Training is carried out through post graduate projects and post graduate CPD training in collaboration with the Welsh Energy Sector Training (WEST) project.
