Lightweighting is used to reduce the mass of large optics and the size of the support mechanism required, which can allow the support mechanism to be more dynamic.

To do this requires careful analysis of both optic and mount to eliminate the possibility of distortion in the final system.

Using Finite Element Analysis our engineers can define how much material can be removed whilst still keeping the integrity of the optical surface.
This is done with sympathy to the optical supports and mounting arrangement. Mass reductions of up to 70% are possible in this way.

Glyndwr Innovations also has CNC milling capability to produce the lightweighting on smaller parts.
