Happy Retirement to Prof. Caroline Gray OBE!

On Wednesday 31st July, we said farewell to OpTIC Director, Caroline Gray OBE, who celebrated her retirement after nearly 40 years in the Photonics industry.

Throughout her 13 years with Wrexham University, Caroline has led a variety of successful projects and initiatives, including the Centre for Photonics Expertise (CPE) – an ERDF-funded, pan-Wales project which supported the development of Welsh businesses through photonics-based solutions – and the ESO project at OpTIC which successfully delivered prototype segments for the European Southern Observatory ELT Telescope primary mirror.

Caroline’s contribution to the Optics industry and business in Wales also led to her being awarded with an OBE during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.
